A good travel pillow really can be your best friend on a long journey. Most of us have a tendency to nap on a long trip and to be able to so so in relative comfort is nice. What is Different About a Memory Foam Travel Pillow?

Memory foam. These days it shows up everywhere. Mattresses, pillows and travel pillows, even baby changing mats, but what exactly is it?

Anyone who thinks that memory foam is like some space age material is actually right. Memory foam was developed in 1966 under a contract by NASA to improve the safety of aircraft cushions. Ames scientists Chiharu Kubokawa and Charles A. Yost of the Stencel Aero Engineering Corporation were the major contributors to the project. The temperature-sensitive memory foam was initially referred to as “slow spring back foam” and Charles Yost called it Temper Foam.

It was not until the 1980s though that NASA allowanced memory foam technology to be sold to the public and it was not until 1991 that the first mattress – The Tempur-Pedic – was released.

These days as previously mentioned memory foam is everywhere. A memory foam travel neck pillow means that your head, neck and shoulders really do get the best possible support, even better than those wrap around travel pillows.
