There are so many things to do in Hawaii it is hard to know where to begin to describe even a few of them! There are however some things that I believe everyone – young or old – should include of their to do/to see list when visiting Hawaii. Here then is a little about some of the “musts” when it comes to things to do in Hawaii:
Things to Do in Hawaii: Attend a Real Polynesian Luau – A real Polynesian Luau is an explosion of color, music, dance and food that is part of the essence of the history of Hawaii. It is also a fabulous introduction to food and the culture that make the islands so unique. You can dance until you drop, eat until you are stuffed or just sit back and take it all in as a spectator but a luau really is sometime that everyone should include at least once on their vacation itinerary.
Things to Do in Hawaii: Visit the Kilauea Volcano – Seeing a volcano up close and personal is an exciting and interesting experience but the fact that The Big Island’s Kilauea Volcano is an active one makes it doubly so. Its current eruption started in January 1983 and has been continuously flowing ever since. Acres of new land have been added to the islands southern shoreline by the ever flowing lava and a hike through the lush rain forest that surrounds the volcano bring you past steam spewing vents, walk through lava tubes and centuries old Hawaiian petroglyphs.
Things to Do in Hawaii – Go Whale Watching on a Catamaran Cruise – Whale watching from land is one experience Hawaii offers but whale watching from the water is so much more exciting. Whichever of the Hawaiian islands you happen to be staying on you should be able to book a catamaran cruise that will really bring you up close and personal with these majestic creatures.
Things to Do in Hawaii – Visit Waimea Canyon – Sprawling and majestic the Waimea Canyon is known as the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific”, a term coined originally by none other than Mark Twain. Located in western Kauai the canyon is a mile wide, 3,600 feet deep and 10 miles long. Even if you have been there before it is still fun to watch the faces of those who have not as their first glimpse of the canyon from the edge takes their breath away!
Things to Do in Hawaii – Dine and Shop in Waikiki – There are great shops and places to eat all over Hawaii but the concentration you will find in Waikiki should not be missed! From quaint shops and artists’ studios to elegant art galleries and large shopping centers there is no shortage of things to spend your vacation dollars on and the food selection is nothing short of amazing!
